Vendors across small retail stores, petrol bunks, and delivery counters rely on Android POS devices daily, yet they struggle with one basic task: finding specific transaction records.

The gap wasn’t in payment speed, but in post-payment clarity the very stage where UX should bring peace of mind.

No search. No smart filters. No instant visibility.

Every time a customer asks, “Can you check my payment?”, the vendor scrolls endlessly through logs, guessing timestamps and IDs. This manual hunt wastes time and undermines customer trust.

  • Vendors spend 2–5 minutes searching for one transaction.

  • 100% of users wanted filters for date, amount, and method.

  • Frustration peaks during customer disputes.

From Statista, MarketWatch, and NPCI reports (2023–2024)

  • 72% of small vendors in India rely on POS for daily transactions.

  • 65% growth in UPI-based payments → urgent need for mode-specific log filters.

  • Square POS implemented and improved efficiency by 25% through advanced search.

The data was clear: efficiency and trust were missing from India’s POS ecosystem and both could be restored through better UX.

The deeper we went, the more technical friction surfaced.

Hardware & HMI Constraints

Hardware & HMI Constraints

  • Small screens (4–6 inch) limited how much information could appear at once.

  • Touch calibration errors and glare made fine UI elements risky.

  • Slow processors meant every visual needed to be light, layered, and instant.

  • Current interfaces lacked visual hierarchy & all transactions looked identical.

  • Export options existed but were rigid (only unsorted CSV).

  • No clear mapping between payment method and status (Success, Pending, Failed).

Find Faster - Advanced Search & Filter

  • A search bar sits at the top of every screen, with filters for date, amount, and payment method.
Color-coded categories (Completed / Refund / Pending) allow instant scanning.

See Smarter - Transaction Categorization & History Overview

  • Logs auto-group by type and display a daily summary - total sales, refunds, and disputes giving vendors context before details.

Act Quicker - Easy Export & Sharing

  • Customizable exports (PDF, CSV, Excel) with smart templates like Today / This Week / Custom Range.

What I Learned
HMI design is not about fitting UI on small screens it’s about translating machine behavior into human logic.

Even a 1-second reduction in friction compounds into smoother service, better trust, and more sales.
